Community Groups

We want to focus on building community capacity.

That’s why we have a range of services to support community groups in Berwickshire.

  • Getting Set Up

We can help you when you’re setting up a community group, charity or social enterprise. We’ll work with you to help you decide if you’d like your group to become constituted and if so, what legal structure would be best. We can also signpost to our partner organisation, Scottish Borders Social Enterprise Chamber, for social enterprise support.

  • Training Courses

We hold regular training courses for staff, volunteers and committee members. Take a look at our latest training programme here.

  • Advice

If you need advice about running your group, we can support you to make sure everything runs smoothly with the right governance, and that all trustees and committee members understand their roles and responsibilities.

  • Charity Accounting

We provide training to help you make sense of charity law and Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) regulations, so you can relax knowing your charity finances are compliant.

  • Building Connections

We love building connections and fostering partnerships across the community sector in Berwickshire. Providing networking events to promote peer support and learning means a stronger, more confident and sustainable sector. That’s important to us.

  • Community Consultations

Helping communities to engage with and consult local people to discover what they need.

  • Funding Help

Getting to grips with funding can be tricky. We can support you with identifying and applying for it.

Charity Support

  • We give support to grassroots organisations, groups and community projects.

  • We offer advice, information and training to new and existing groups, as well as statutory and third sector organisations in Berwickshire.

How it works

We can provide our support in a way that suits you. If you prefer one to one sessions by phone or email, that’s fine. Otherwise, we can deliver help through training sessions and workshops.

By the end, you should be able to recognise your strengths and learn how to develop your organisation further.

Membership of Bavs is free and is open to all voluntary and community groups in Berwickshire as well as individuals.
